CLIENT’S PROFILE
The client is a North American engineering company, with worldwide operations in more than 40 countries. The company has approximately 500 expatriates on assignment at any given time.
CLIENT’S CHALLENGE
The company had grown over the years through a series of acquisitions, which resulted in various inconsistencies in the policies, processes, compensation and administration of their international assignments. In addition, given the project-driven nature of the industry, some inconsistencies had been introduced over time, as each project had to be delivered within a specific budget. By making incremental and piecemeal adjustments over time, the Global Mobility framework had become less efficient and, as a result, the client was experiencing increasing levels of dissatisfaction among their international assignees and line managers.
ITX SOLUTION
ITX recommended a comprehensive diagnostic review of the client’s Global Mobility framework, to investigate the key issues and identify the root causes to address in order to see improvements, bearing in mind that the client’s priorities were better service, efficiency and compliance.
ITX held a series of interviews with representatives of a cross-section of the client’s organisation (Global Mobility Managers, Business Executives, HR Executives, Operations Leaders, Functional Leaders, etc.). During these interactive discussions, ITX was able to probe deep into various concerns, identifying root causes of all the perceptions and comments being collected. The information gathered during the interviews was documented, analysed and organised into various categories, each representing an aspect of the Global Mobility framework that needed attention (e.g. policies, processes, documentation, execution, technology, vendors, etc.). A set of detailed recommendations was produced and presented to the client and key stakeholders, showing how each of the recommendations would address some of the concerns identified. The final report included a recommendation to consider the establishment of a Global Employment Company, as a way of introducing major improvements in consistency, governance, compliance and customer satisfaction. ITX also delivered a Feasibility Study focused exclusively on the advantages that the client would derive from the implementation of a Global Employment Company.
OUTCOMES
The recommendations were well received by the various stakeholders in the client’s organisation, and the various initiatives were scheduled for internal discussion and implementation, including the establishment of a Global Employment Company. ITX participated in many of these initial discussions to answer questions and provide case studies and examples.
